Besides working to advance the status of women worldwide and in our area, Zonta members are engaged in various community service projects from time to time.  These are in addition to donations to community organizations which are noted on the fundraising page.

Past and present projects include the following:

Highway Cleanup:  The Brainerd Chapter of Zonta participates in the Adopt a Highway program, sponsoring a mile long stretch of Highway 210 a few miles west of Baxter.  Zonta members clean up the area twice during the year.

Salvation Army Bell Ringers:    Many area Zontians volunteer their time to ring bells for the Salvation Army during the holidays as part of this annual fundraising effort for the Salvation Army.

Book Donations:  Our club donates books to area elementary schools on an annual basis.  The books typically highlight the life of Amelia Erhart (a Zontian) or other prominent women.  The purpose is to provide inspiration to young students about the lives of successful women and their accomplishments.

Story Readers:  Literacy is an important theme for Zontians.  From time to time, area Zontians volunteer their time to read stories to Brainerd Elementary students.

Port Home Career Speakers:  Zontians periodically speak to the girls at the Port group home about their own careers, career choices and professional lives.  They answer questions from the girls and in themselves provide examples of women who have set and achieved career and/or life goals.

Shoebox Ministry/Care Boxes: An ongoing service project is assembling boxes of toiletries, holiday gifts and other items needed by women and girls at the Women's Shelter, Port Group Home, and the Parent Mentor Program.

Clothes Closet: Zonta members contribute to and help maintain a supply of good, used working clothes for economically disadvantaged women who are entering the workforce and may not have suitable attire for interviews, or the first few weeks of work.

Race for the Cure:  Many Brainerd Zontians participate in this annual event which helps raise money to find a cure for  breast cancer and raises the level of awareness in the community.
